This contains Matisse and Duchamp simultaneously since it is Duchamp’s readymade of an empty paint pot and, at the same time, Matisse because there is color, selection, the trace of a man’s hand in it. It no doubt came from my jealousy of Support/Surface. And from the day when Viallat said to me: you know Matisse had not finished and they forgot to open his drawer where there were scissors and sticky stuff.
